Idyllwild, CA, Mile 166-178

Rain! in the desert. Luckily it only rained during the night. Got to put my raincoat to good use. We rose at our usual 0400 to start the hike in the cool of the morning. Everything had a layer of dew on it; we were walking in the clouds. Despite the weather, Ragnar will not let anything come in between him and a good stick :)
We both had very wet feet, but appreciated a break for the scorching sun. The rain blanketed desert is so fragrant. I cannot believe how titillated my nose is.

We managed to complete 22 miles on our second day to Idyllwild, CA. Feeling accomplished we hunkered down for a good rest til our last push into town.
This section of the trail is approaching a fire closure; which produces so many detours you can take. On top of detour decisions, you have to consider poodle-dog bush which is like poison oak. This plant is one of the first to grow after fire has ravaged the landscape.

After much deliberation Ragnar and I took a hitch to Paradise Cafe and then a hitch into Idyllwild, CA. We missed 10 miles of open PCT, but thought the loss was worth not having itchy skin for days.
Once in Idyllwild, CA we decided to rest at least three days. Want to make sure that we are ready to go for the next section.  It is such a cute little town.
