Silver Pass to Red's Meadow. Mile 906

Waterfalls that you have to cross are always a bit nerve splitting. This one was not too bad, current was fast, but mostly we just got wet from the spray.

This little beauty was on the way to Silver Pass. This is Cathy's last pass prior to leaving the trail. By the end she will have walked more than 250 miles. Her goal of at least 211 miles has been reached. I am so proud that she made it. I did try to kill her a couple of times, but she prevailed. With much love she has picked the trail name "Burro". This is spanish for donkey. She is one of the most stubborn and strong women that I know.  She has two sore knees, ankle twisted twice, large bruises on both thighs, and a myriad of scratches on her legs. To jump in with a season PCT hiker for one of the hardest sections is to be commended. As usual, she tolerated me well and always helps me to be a better person.

Views from the summit of Silver Pass. It had one of the longest glissades. I screamed in glee the whole way down. Plus you cut off miles in minutes.

Vibrant with life.

As we approach Red's Meadow (A Pack Ranch complete with store and restaurant) the terrain begins to show some volcanic evidence. In no surprise, this is called Red Cone.

A fire started via lightning in this forest some years back. Vegetation is taking back the landscape. In all reality, naturally started fires are a nutrient replenishment system for the soil.

At Red's Meadow we got to share a cabin with Bill and Jordan, two JMT hikers. They are two lovely gentlemen that are so down to earth and genuine. Their generosity and kindness will stick with me. I hope that our paths cross in the future.
