Brietenbush Lake, OR. Mile 2037
Currently there is the fire in the Three Sisters Wilderness and one in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness. Between these two fire closures is about 27 miles of open PCT. We believe in hiking every open mile of PCT; so we will be visiting this area.
This closure has only an open road which means we have to hike 13 miles in and then 13 miles out. This is a helicopter that drops water on fire. We stood and watched it for so long.
Hiking an out and back means that we get to slack pack. This is when you set up camp, drop off all your camping gear, and only travel with food/water for the day. This signs indicates us to turn around.
Dixie setting up for one of her videos in the lava fields.
Mt Diamond and Perk in the lava fields.
We are the only people on the entire section of the trail. It is sad, it has been so beautiful. It is also so fascinating to see live wild fire.
This little beauty really let me get up close and personal.
This has been a stark stretch. A combination of burn and lava. You still can find plants working hard to make the soil habitable again.
This is a Dee Wright Observatory on Mackenzie Pass.
Ragnar and I celebrating 2000 miles with wine and chocolate. Shout out to Tina for sending me the wine. :)
Hike up to Three Fingered Jack.
No matter how hard I try, this smoke makes it very difficult to take pictures of the mountains. But, in person the smoke does add an air of mystery.
Huckleberries for days. So tasty and the color changes of the leaves makes it really feel like fall.
Nom Nom NOMMMMMMM
YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!
Ragnar pointing out Wasco Lake.
Mt Jefferson. We were not expecting to see her. What a treat. After this stretch we got a ride from one of Dixie Survivalist Pod Casters Luke. He was so sweet. He picked us up at 2100 and drove us all the way to Ollalie Lake. We arrived at 0330. What a wonderful man.
Some cheeses on the hike to Brietenbush Lake.
This campsite was the first place that Scott and I took Ragnar to hike as a puppy. Nostalgia.
You shall not pass, againnnnnnn.
Ragnar refreshing himself in one of the dozens of lakes in the Warm Spring Reservation. Next stop is Mt Hood and Portland!
