I 5, aka Made it to Oregon. Mile 1716
Got dropped off at the PCT trailhead in Seiad Valley, CA.
I'm so glad to have Ragnar back with me, but leaving my partner Scott was heart breaking.
Smoke, smoke, smoke. So much so that my eyes burned as ash rained down. Turns out that they closed the trail the same day I was on that section. Guess I passed within a mile of active fire.
Luckily I was with Naps who informed me at 0500 that he got a text saying the trail was closed and fire close. We both left in a hurry.
This here is Elderberries. They are such an interesting combination of flavors. I immensely enjoyed grabbing a small cluster and munching on the run.
Interesting red berry. Have yet to identify it's name.
This little flower varies in color from yellow to bright pink. I have noticed it's presence since Kennedy Meadows South. I am surprised that it can survive in so many climates.
Ragnar had his first encounter with deer and cows. He is very afraid of both. Wouldn't sleep due to being vigilant for the evil deer.
Made it to Oregon! So glad to be in my home state. Only 962 miles to go.

WE LOVE WASHINGTON....So glad you are there safe and sound, little sis! Looking forward to watching the progress in WA! xxxooo We were thinking of you as we visited with friends atop the Crystal Mt. Gondola ride. One of the Crystal Mt. rescue women told us she is currently one of the volunteers who meet PCT hikers at the closed section of the trail to help transport them around the fire zone here near MT. Rainier! Hoping it is safe for you to hike there soon!
